Abyssian cats since 2020
Breeding ideology and history of Pajuja
In our family there have always been cats around: traditional and other breeds and several litters have been raced. From husband side he has similar experience among dogs. At first we were discussing having both cat and a dog, but then much wiser had to give up and finally decided to have two abyssinian.
Abyssian breed won 6-0 other candidates, because it is…
- Dog like cat: goes out in a leach, growls not hisses, docile, behaves much like dog and even the fur has a scent that is a little bit of dog like
- Talkative but quiet breed, coos and speaks softly
- Easy to groom, short with slight hair loss, with spectacular 3-D effect due to ticking
- Sporty “chassis”
- Magnificent looks: miniature mountain lion
- Child friendly
- Kind and gentle eyes
- Sociable and intimate with people
- No petulance
- Never having a bad temper
- Active and not a sofa cushion
- No signs of allergic reactions to any cat allergic persons in our family
- Noble feline, true aristocrat
Our own search for a kitten took 6 months, first from Finnish breeders and then from abroad. We found a lot of good looking web pages, highly priced kittens with excellent titles. Kitten pedigrees, which were incomprehensible to us. Sometimes we got in touch with friendly and other times arrogant breeders, whose opinion was that their kittens were the best in the World. But how can you know, if they were worth traveling and the money? What if pedigree and genes are something else than true abyssinian? We were running out of oxygen.
We had to change our approach to this matter from a different angle. We enlisted to Suomen kissaliitto ry, cat association of Finland, took required courses for breeders and also joined to Somakiss, a association for abyssinian and somali cat owners. This is how we got in touch with the right professionals.
The idea of breeding healthy and sound purebred abyssinian family members, has already formed itself. Also the idea of breeding abys only in their four basic colours, ruddy (normal), red (sorrel, cinnamon), blue and beige (fawn) was obvious and good genes were imperative. We knew that this road would be tricky and it would be costly as well as laborious, but it seemed to be the right choice.
We started by asking help from Somakiss, which was definitely the right choice. Things started to happen (This should have been done earlier). “Aby-professional” checked a few of those kittens found from different websites and pedigrees. Sadly, none of those were the type of kittens we were looking for. It was an eye opener, that there are breeders that circumvent international and collective standards of breeding. People do use cages and use different breeds or variants in their breeding of abyssinians. Some had suspicious pedigrees and even the health of the kittens was a big question mark, etc… so, not for us.
Finally, we asked this specialist to find us a kitten. Within a few hours we had a promising candidate for us. We decided to have a female kitten and good companion for her, precedence for kitten from same cattery if possible. After some consideration, the decision was made to have a female kitten and her step brother, neutered. Kittens had the same father and they had played together from day one. Finally, we had the right breeder and right kittens, the downside was that those were in Germany. In the end, this was an easy task to do. Once a cat had been imported to FInland already. This time around everything went well and the kittens showed good manners the whole time.
This is how the history of the Pajuja cattery started!
